Dear compassionate friends, allies, and advocates,I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Kabanda Abel, and I write to you from Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. I am an LGBTQ asylum seeker and a fervent Human Rights Defender. Today, I extend a heartfelt plea to the global LGBTQ community and all those with compassionate hearts, seeking your support in our mission to raise funds for a cause that is deeply significant to us.
Living as an LGBTQ individual in Kakuma Refugee Camp is a journey filled with unique challenges. Despite my commitment to advocating for human rights and equality, the harsh reality persists. Access to daily meals remains a struggle, prompting us to reach out for assistance, especially as we approach the festive season. This campaign is a call for solidarity as we embark on a mission to raise funds for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The funds we aim to collect serve a dual purpose: to ensure that we have access to meals throughout the new year and to provide essential support for our community members facing additional hardships.
A significant portion of the funds we seek to raise will be allocated to securing daily meals for LGBTQ individuals at the camp. The persistent challenge of obtaining adequate nutrition is a stark reality, and your contributions will have a direct impact on our ability to sustain ourselves.Children within the LGBTQ community also face unique challenges.
With your generous support, we aspire to purchase playing kits for the kids, creating an environment that fosters a sense of normalcy and joy in their lives despite the challenging circumstances. Our commitment to each other extends to those among us who are living with HIV.
A dedicated portion of the funds will be directed towards providing essential support, medication, and care for our brothers and sisters facing the additional burden of HIV in the camp.
As an asylum seeker and Human Rights Defender, navigating the complex circumstances of the camp is an arduous journey. Your support ensures that we can celebrate the holidays with a sense of dignity and hope, transcending the challenges that surround us.
It's crucial to note that due to limited internet access in Kenya, the funds are being collected in Australia.
We want to assure you that 100% of the funds raised will be directly sent to the camp in Kenya.
This commitment to transparency ensures that your contributions make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.Your contribution, regardless of its size, will make a tangible difference in the lives of LGBTQ individuals at Kakuma Refugee Camp.
By sharing this campaign within your networks, you amplify our collective voice and impact, bringing us closer to achieving our goals.
In the spirit of the holiday season, I extend my deepest gratitude to all those who choose to stand with us during this challenging time. Your support is a beacon of hope, demonstrating that the global LGBTQ community stands united in the face of adversity.
As we embark on this journey to raise funds for the LGBTQ community at Kakuma Refugee Camp, I want to thank you for taking the time to consider our cause.
Together, we can create positive change, foster hope, and showcase the power of unity in making a lasting impact.

Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and support. With heartfelt regards,

Kabanda Abel LGBTQ Asylum Seeker and Human Rights Defender Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya
