Help LGBTQ Ugandans through a local organization

Hi there community,

I'm Charles and I'm setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of a professional acquaintance who is the director of a community support organization in Uganda. His organization support a variety of human rights initiatives, including support for LGBTQ+ people in Uganda.

In case you have not followed the news lately, the situation for LGBTQ+ people in Uganda has rapidly deteriorated after the passage of strict anti-gay laws. Not only are these laws targeting gay, lesbian, and transgender people - the laws are also making it nearly impossible for aid organizations to support LGBTQ+ people. This also means that organizations can not openly fundraise to continue support for their vital work.

My husband and I are setting up this GoFundMe to raise funds which can be sent to a great organization that is now forced to work under the radar to continue offering support to the LGBTQ+ people it is serving. The funding we are able to raise here will be transferred personally to this deserving organization so that they can continue their work.

Here’s what this organization does:

LGBTQ+ people in Uganda are now able to be evicted from their homes, terminated from their jobs, and denied medical treatment. Ugandan allies are also now able to be prosecuted for supporting LGBTQ+ people and groups. The organization we are connected with steps in to provide assistance in all of these areas, and currently has 13 individuals directly under its stewardship.

Our target goal of $20520 (USD) is certainly just a portion of what will be needed for long-term support for our LGBTQ+ community in Uganda, but it will provide a desperately needed runway to allow this organization to continue it’s immediate work.
