Help LHMS get to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals!
Each of the 7 members of The Langston Hughes Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team have put in hundreds of hours of work and practice since September. They now have the opportunity to show the world their creativity and quick thinking!!
In March, they won the Northern Virginia Regional Tournament. And in April, they placed (a close) second in the Virginia State Tournament which qualified them for the World Finals!!
We need your help to send our team to the 39th Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 23 – 26 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
At the World Tournament, the team will be immersed in a community of similarly creative, enthusiastic, and motivated students from around the country and the world. Your contributions will help pay for their tournament registration, travel, dorm housing, food, and shipping for their sets, props, and costumes – estimated to be over $14,000 for the entire team.
What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. The competition emphasizes creativity and teamwork and has grown into the largest international creative problem-solving competition worldwide.
Why you should give?
Because you care! This team brings passion, creativity and focus to solving complex problems within a competitive format. There’s a short amount of time between the Virginia State Tournament and the World Finals, so the team needs your help NOW to help raise the money needed to continue their journey. Every little bit will help! Thank you for your support, we can’t do this without YOU!!
