Help Lia pay for their medical bills!!!

Hi all,

 

We found out this past Saturday (12/11/21) that our close friend and roommate, Lia (they/them), has a fist-sized tumor in their chest. After a couple days of having trouble breathing, Lia went to urgent care thinking they maybe had mild pneumonia only to find out that they have a tumor. Because of covid-restrictions, they had to process that information alone. They spent 2.5 days in the E.R., lots of lab work, x-rays, a procedure to get 1.5 liters of liquid drained from their lungs, and now they are at home under 24/7 medical observation. We are not sure yet whether the tumor is malignant or benign (please send good thoughts their way), but either way the tumor has to come out. As you imagine, all of this will get very expensive! They could really use some help paying their medical bills and getting essentials (such has hand sanitizer, masks, medication, etc). We want to make it so they are focusing on recovering instead of worrying about how much this is all going to cost. We will be updating this page with more news as we get test results back.

 

Lia is the embodiment of a rainbow. Their laugh is infectious and they brighten any room they step into. In less than 4 hours, their life has completely changed. 23 year olds shouldn't be facing down years of debt and thinking about how to just make it through the day. This has been an exhausting, scary, whirlwind experience for all of us and we're all looking for ways to make it a little easier for them.
