My name is Liam Shannon. I am 21 years old, and I am a scholarship student at Bennington College where I study classical voice.
Music has always been my greatest passion. I have played the violin and piano since I was very young, but I developed my love of singing when I discovered opera at the age of 14. This winter I auditioned for The Miami Music Festival (MMF) for Summer 2019, and I was accepted to their amazing Opera Apprentice Program: https://miamimusicfestival.com/apprentice-program.
The MMF Opera Apprentice Program takes place from July 3 through 28, 2019. It gives young singers the opportunities, or opera-tunities, to study opera in depth for close to four weeks every summer. I am honored and excited for this chance. I will be singing a variety of roles spanning both their Apprentice and Studio programs - including Antonio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Ubalde in Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Armide. I will also have additional performance opportunities including public concerts for the Opera Scenes Program, Opera Aria Nights, Broadway and Zarzuela Nights.
I will be singing both with full and chamber orchestras, I will receive weekly voice lessons with distinguished voice faculty, attend daily master classes with renowned guests and resident faculty along with coaching opportunities with faculty from the world’s leading opera houses. I will also receive a variety of instruction including language, diction, recitative, performance practice, and score study.
To make this summer’s opera training a reality, I need your financial support. I am one of five highly artistic siblings, and my family is of modest means. I need to raise $4,500 to help cover tuition, travel expenses, room and board. I have 3 installment payments in mid April, mid May and mid June.
Tuition: $3,600
Lodging: $945
Food:$650
Airfare: $300
Incidentals: $350
Subtotal $5,845
Personal savings: - $400
Family contribution - $945
Total: $4500
Please help me do what I love.
Thank you!
Liam
