Help Lillipad Beat Pneumonia

Donation protected

Lillipad was purchased at a Thoroughbred breeding sale in Washington a few months ago by an off the track organization. She was the lowest bidding horse at the sale and Serenity Acres Horse Rehabilitation (run by my good friend Lindsey) gave her a new chapter as a riding horse. She spent some time decompressing and then started training with them. The first time Lindsey posted about her she stood out to me. I followed her journey and then when we decided we were ready to take on a second horse for the boys, I reached out about Lillipad joining our family. We also adopted Trevor from them back in 2018. We all agreed that she was the perfect fit for our family and we set everything up for her to travel to us in Reno from Washington.

Unfortunately, the day after she arrived she was in very rough shape when I went to check on her and we suspected she had shipping fever. I hauled her to UC Davis the next day and she has been there for the last 5 weeks. She has a very severe case of pleural pneumonia and we are doing everything we can to get her through it. We have hit complication after complication in fighting this condition. She has developed abscesses on both sides of her pleural cavity and has an area of concern/possible abscess in the actual tissue or her right lung. She has had multiple chest tubes placed to drain the fluid that just kept accumulating. She went through a thoracotomy last week to address a major abscess on her right side and that hit her already exhausted body extremely hard, resulting in her being in the ICU for 2 days. Our sweet girl just can't seem to catch a break! She has been steadily improving the last couple of days, so I think we may have finally gotten the right antibiotic combo figured out. She still has a LONG way to go. She still needs weeks of treatment in the hospital and has a tremendous amount of healing to do before we can even think about bringing her home.

Lillipad hasn't given up and we don't want to give up on her. She is a barn favorite wherever she goes (everyone at Davis adores her), she is sweet and truly wants to be in your pocket. Although she hasn't been ours for long, we love her fiercely and want nothing more than to bring her home. This mare has been through so much in her life: racing, a broodmare, multiple sales, now this. The hospital bill is massive (and I mean MASSIVE) and only going to get bigger. As tough as it is to admit, we need help to keep fighting for her! All we want is to bring our girl home and show her what forever is, show her what it's like to have her own 2 doting little boys to love and her brush her all day long. Carter has said that all he wants in the world is to ride his girl, even if just once. Please help us make her forever with us years and not weeks. Every penny will help Lillipad get that much closer to being being well.
