Under the Fire of War: The Story of a Family Striving to Rebuild Their Lives After Destruction

My name is Lina, I am a mother of four son's and a lawyer from northern Gaza. I had my own office where I received clients, and this was our main source of income.

My four children are Abdullah, who was in his second year of multimedia studies; Yazan, who was in his final year at university and about to graduate; and Youssef, who was in high school preparing for his final exams. My fourth child, a daughter, is married and pregnant, and lives in the southern part of Gaza. They were all diligent and hardworking students, striving to build their academic futures.

But on a dark day, the war on Gaza began, causing many civilians to be displaced due to falling rockets and house demolitions. Despite the imminent danger, we stayed in our home because we had nowhere else to go.

In December 2023, the army sent us threatening messages to force us to leave our homes under a barrage of rockets and gunfire. We had no choice but to leave, our hearts filled with tears and pain. We became displaced, moving from place to place, searching for shelter and lacking food and water, in the midst of harsh cold and heavy rains.

My office was completely destroyed, which was our only source of income, and our home suffered significant damage. Without any fault or wrongdoing on our part, we lost all our memories and our sense of security and stability. My children's lives changed from diligent students to disheartened individuals after the war destroyed all their dreams and academic futures. We lost hope and livelihood at the same time, and I lost everything I had worked for over many years to secure a decent life for my children and build their future.
