Help Lindsey Stay Housed and Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
Hi friends, I’m here to ask for support on behalf of my friend Lindsey, who recently overcame homelessness and just received a new cancer diagnosis.

Lindsey grew up in Charlotte, NC, and moved to Atlanta in 1991. Lindsey's family stopped supporting Lindsey at age 10 because of Lindsey's sexuality, and ever since then Lindsey's been surviving independently without any family support. Lindsey worked as a hairdresser and taught cosmetology for several years, and later studied psychology and became a substance abuse counselor. Lindsey's passion is “helping people find themselves through the experience, strength, and hope that I also possess.”

As a queer Black person living in Atlanta with HIV, Lindsey is a survivor. The last few years have been very tough, but Lindsey has somehow come out the other side with faith and positivity. Lindsey battled prostate cancer from 2018-2020, and underwent chemo and surgery. After finishing cancer treatment and experiencing financial hardship, Lindsey lost everything, and had to survive on the streets with no support system during the pandemic.

I met Lindsey in a coffee shop last year while Lindsey was still struggling to climb out of homelessness. Even while experiencing so much pain, hunger, and hardship, Lindsey's beautiful personality and humor shined through. We stayed in touch, and in the last few months, I’ve witnessed Lindsey work incredibly hard to get a job and finally a new apartment, and access to services like EBT. I was so happy to see my new friend on the verge of stability after such a long journey. However, just when Lindsey began to regain some footing, an oncologist found a cancerous mass on Lindsey's leg.

We are joyful and relieved to share that they caught this recent bout of cancer early - Lindsey will be able to take oral treatment for the cancer, and should be able to avoid chemotherapy. However, because of the cancer treatment and Lindsdey's HIV+ status, Lindsey has a very vulnerable immune system, and it will be impossible to work while beating cancer.

Lindsey has survived and fought alone this long, and deserves our support! Funds from this go-fund-me will go towards Lindsey’s daily living expenses, so Lindsey can focus on beating cancer, without worrying about day-to-day financial challenges of food, shelter, laundry, transportation, utilities, and other expenses many of us take for granted. Lindsey is an incredibly inspiring, kind, resilient, and positive person who loves helping other people, and our entire Atlanta community will be better off with Lindsey surviving and thriving!

We thank you for giving any support you can, and for sharing Lindsey’s story with friends and family!
