Help Lisa Pay her Medical Bills & Recovery Costs

On December 19, 2018 a distracted driver decided his phone was more important than my life, while reaching for his phone, his truck struck my vehicle nearly killing me. I was med-flighted to UMASS Memorial in Worcester with multiple catastrophic injuring requiring 5 surgeries over 8 days including three broken limbs - both femurs, both knees, crushed left femoral neck, clavicle, scapula, left ulna, and ribs. I am so grateful to be alive! However, the medical costs exceed $600,000, are climbing and I will need another surgery, maybe two. As of today, June 6, 2019, I am still not allowed to walk on my own but I will dance again!
Your support will ensure I don't lose my home.
With three broken limbs, I was unable to leave my home for months or care for myself or my home. I have remained cheerful and appreciative to be on this recovery journey. But, NOW I'm getting out more! I can fully bear weight on my left leg and am 50% weight bearing on my right. It will take 12-24 months for me to fully regain range of motion in my knees. The recovery journey is arduous but well worth it.
Due to errors and gaps in federal rules contained in the ACA as well as misinformation conveyed by customer service representatives at the state and federal level, I was uninsured on Dec. 19th although my insurance started on January 1, 2019.
I'm committed to making lemonade out of the lemon of this experience. Using my public policy skills, there are 2 issues that I will assemble a team to fix: 1st-I will work to make distracted driving a felony offense. The man who hit me is serving only 60 days in jail and paying NO restitution. 2nd - I will work to make sure that rules and protocols are changed so that families like mine are properly informed about the "special enrollment period" after "life qualifying events" so that people don't have gaps in insurance coverage as envisioned in the ACA.
This GoFundMe page will close the day after the Music Benefit being held on August 4, 2019 in Temple at my home 3:00pm. It will be a day to raise money and say "thank you" to the 1st responders, the healthcare providers, neighbors, family, friends, and colleagues who sent well-wishes, food, emptied my commode pot, cleaned my home and kept me company. Please join us for a day to celebrate good food, great company, music, and the ecstatically beautiful fragility of life.
