Help Lismore Recover - 2022 Floods

Donation protected
Hi my name is Jamie and I am fundraising for close friends, family and the greater Lismore community, that was devastated by the worst flood the region has EVER seen. My wife and I grew up in Lismore and although we have moved away our families and close friends still live there. The town will always hold a special place in our hearts and we want to see it recover.
On 28th February 2022 the river rose so quickly during the night and overtopped the flood levy in the early hours of the morning and peaked at 14.4m which is more than 2m higher than any other recorded flood in history for the town.

The people of Lismore were caught unaware, having only had minimal time to be prepared but also thinking they would be safe because the water had never come up that high.

This saw many people including elderly, children and family pets escaping homes to be stuck in ceiling spaces and for those that were able, rooftops, waiting in the pouring rain hoping to be rescued, watching the water continue to rise around them and into their homes.

Many people and businesses in the Lismore area are not able to get insurance coverage for their homes as it is too expensive and some have fine print in policies that excludes coverage from flood water resulting in river which means that so many have been left with absolutely nothing other then a gutted home and what clothes they were rescued in.

I would like to inject a 50% share of what is raised into local school students enabling them to afford to be able to return to school. This will aid in them purchasing resources, uniforms, shoes and other necessities for their daily schooling https://sites.google.com/education.nsw.gov.au/vouch-for-lismore/home?fbclid=IwAR09g2WFa-oU3u5stDZcJDlvA61mXRe4GcwWEtDNZ87J_Bqe6pUoy86mVy4

The other 50% share will specifically help a few of my personal friends and family rise from the ‘mud’ and rebuild to heal and get on with their lives;

Jock Olley, his fiancé Kylie and daughter Krystal escaped through their roof while the water reached around 1.5m inside the 2nd storey of their home in South Lismore. They have lost everything and were not able to afford the $20-25k for flood insurance on their home. He has now gutted the whole newly renovated home and will have to live with family while saving to
rebuild.

Adam Sheridan and his fiancé Dannielle evacuated safely the day before with their baby daughter but lost everything in their 2 storey home in South Lismore. They too have been left with a gutted home unsafe to live in while they wait to rebuild.

My nephew Ethan lost all of his personal belongings while living underneath his mother’s home, they were rescued by a passing jet skier while water was rising around them.

I would like to thank everyone for your donation and kind thoughts for the people of Lismore. They are very resilient people and will come back from this.
