Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, recientemente me diagnosticaron cáncer de tiroides.

Desde mi diagnóstico, el proceso ha sido confuso, aterrador y costoso... :(

Recientemente he concluido la primera parte del tratamiento: la extirpación quirúrgica de mi tiroides y los ganglios linfáticos de mi cuello. La cirugía salió bien y tengo esperanzas en la recuperación, a pesar del dolor y los efectos secundarios.

La siguiente fase de mi tratamiento es la terapia con yodo radiactivo (RAI), que debería ayudar a eliminar cualquier resto de cáncer. Esta fase implica quedarse en la unidad de Medicina Nuclear del hospital en aislamiento durante un par de días debido a la radiactividad.

Dependiendo del resultado de la terapia RAI, podría necesitar más tratamiento.

Después de eso, enfrentaré costos de por vida por la medicación sustitutiva de la tiroides, visitas al médico, pruebas de monitoreo y posibles tratamientos adicionales. El estrés financiero se suma a los problemas de salud, por lo que estoy pidiendo su ayuda para recaudar los fondos suficientes para el tratamiento.

Es difícil estimar la cantidad exacta, pero adjunto una mejor estimación a continuación. Excluyendo cualquier tratamiento adicional (que podría ser necesario después de algunas pruebas más), el costo actual es de alrededor de $420 000 pesos.

Dear friends and family,

As many of you already know I was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer!

The time since my diagnosis has been confusing, scary, and expensive... :(

I have recently concluded the first part of the treatment: the surgical removal of my thyroid and my neck lymph nodes. The surgery went well and I am hopeful about the progress, despite the pain and after effects.

The next phase of my treatment is radioactive iodine therapy (RAI), which should help get rid of any remaining cancer. It also involves staying at the hospital's Nuclear Medicine unit in isolation for a couple of days (because of the radioactivity).

Depending on the outcome of the RAI therapy I might need more treatment.

After that I will face lifelong costs of thyroid substitute medication, doctor visits, monitoring tests, and potential further treatment. The financial stress is adding to the health issues and I am worried, so I am asking for your help.

It's hard to estimate the exact amount, but I am attaching a best guess below. Excluding any further treatment (which might prove necessary after some more tests) the current cost is around 23,000 USD
