Friday 9/3

Lizzy Stabo was fighting a fire at Honuapo, on the Big Island of Hawaii, with her Company Engine 11A out of Naaleh’u, HI when she walked over what you would compare to a trap door and fell into a hole up to her chest with burning embers in the bottom. Thankfully she had quick help and was pulled out! She was transported to Ka’u hospital to then be taken by ambulance to Hilo and life flighted out to Straub Medical Center Burn Unit on Oahu, HI. Once there she was taken directly into a scrub surgery, which she describes as “The Torture Chambers”. Since then, she has met with multiple Dr.’s, including a plastic surgeon. Her right leg is burnt from just about the knee to ankle pretty severely, (known as a Circumferential Burn). The left leg from around the knee to mid calf, one arm/hand was slightly burnt, and her backside. She has been in severe pain, which they now seem to have found a pain management medication for that’s working. Right now is kind of a treat, watch, and wait game. She is getting scrub surgeries two times a day, where they are cleaning, treating, and dressing her wounds. She is in good spirits and thankful to be alive.

Monday 9/6

At this point, they are thinking that she will be in the hospital for a couple weeks, healing and waiting to see if she is going to be needing skin graphs.

Thankfully, her medical expenses are being taken care of because she was on duty. She will be out of work for what we are assuming to be a couple months at the least, so that’s what this will go towards. Living expenses.

My family lives in Northern Minnesota, so being so far away has been very difficult. I’m am so forever thankful for those that have been there for my mom, helped her, will be helping her. I hope to be able to go to Hawaii, at this point we are doing day by day.
