Help Lori Bullyan Turner Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
Hi I have created this fundraiser on behalf of my mom, Lori Bullyan Turner. Unfortunately, times have been very tough especially for my mom as she just received news that on August 23, 2021 that her CAT scan showed that she has a new 2.7cm renal mass indicating that her Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC)/kidney cancer has come back. This time the tumor is bigger in size and has caused enlargement of some of her nearby lymph nodes.

In efforts to have her treated, my mom will have to undergo a surgery. Since my mom is a poor candidate for surgery, her urologist recommended that she undergo another cyroablation (freezing of the tumor) this time at University of Minnesota, since the interventional urologists in this area are not comfortable carrying out this procedure again due to it’s reoccurrence and location.

After doing research on her own, my mom reached out to the Urology department at Mayo Clinic to have a second opinion on whether to have the cyroablation which has the risk of reoccurrence of the tumor (like previously) or undergo a nephrectomy. We all feel more comfortable having her see a specialist down at Mayo Clinic who treats RCC daily, versus a couple times a year in this area.

Since my mom is clinically disabled due to her medical diagnoses and a spinal cord injury (due to being hit by a drunk driver), she is on a very limited income. In order for my mother to proceed to seeing a specialist at Mayo Clinic she needs to raise funds for travel, hotel stay, and out-of-pocket expenses for labs, exams and/or surgery. If you all could please help in some way, we would be extremely grateful and appreciative. Her first appointment at Mayo Clinic on is October 27th, 2021 but she will need to be in Rochester, MN (187 miles away) a couple days early for labs and paperwork.

My mom was first diagnosed with RCC on July 20, 2016. Following this news of having RCC and being a poor candidate due to numerous medical illnesses for surgical removal of the kidney (which is the cure for RCC), her Urologist in Duluth recommended having interventional radiologists perform a cryoablation of the renal mass. He informed her that there is a 15% local recurrence rate with this approach and that if it recurs, they could try the cryoablation again, but occasionally with repeat recurrences patients end up with a nephrectomy (removal of the kidney). Given all of the information, my mother decided to go with the cryoablation approach performed by interventional radiologists at Essentia in September of 2016.

Thank you all in advance!

Sincerely,

Korisha Bullyan & Sharita Turner
