Help Loris and Jerry Rebuild After Devastating Scam

Hello, my name is Loran, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart to ask for help for my grandparents, Loris and Jerry. They have recently gone through a series of extremely difficult events that have left them struggling both financially and emotionally.
On February 13, 2025, my grandparents were involved in a car accident that totaled their vehicle. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but the car was essential for their day-to-day lives, including getting to appointments, running errands, and maintaining their independence. Now, they are without reliable transportation, which has made everyday tasks much more challenging.
To make matters worse, on February 18, 2025, my grandmother, Loris, received a call from a scammer using artificial intelligence posing as her daughter, Amanda, who was sobbing because she had rear-ended a high-profile politician. "Amanda" said they were arresting her, and gave Loris a number for a lawyer who was going to help clean up the mess. Loris called the "lawyer" who said that he needed cash immediately to even begin his work. The "lawyer" told Loris that because it was a high-profile case involving a politician, there was a gag order on her, and she could not discuss anything related to the case with anyone or she would go to jail as well.
Feeling scared and wanting to help "Amanda," Loris withdrew significant amounts of cash to give to "a courier" who actually came to their home multiple times to collect money. The scammers called again the next day, February 19, 2025, posing as Amanda again. They told Loris that Amanda was now being charged with manslaughter because the politician involved in the accident had been pregnant and lost her baby. They claimed they needed even more money in order to help her.
Only after the bank questioned the significant withdrawals two days in a row did someone step in and help. The police were able to show that Amanda was not in jail and worked with Loris to try and catch the scammers. Unfortunately, it was too late. The scammers were gone and their phone was disconnected already. The police and bank are unable to recover any of the money.
My grandparents lost all of their life savings, including all of their retirement funds, to these criminals. The emotional and financial toll this has taken on them is unimaginable.
At a time when they should be able to enjoy their retirement years, my grandparents are facing the loss of their savings, as well as the stress and anxiety caused by this incredibly real scam. It is so difficult to see them go through this, and as a family, we want to do everything we can to help them recover.
We are hoping to raise funds to replace their car, help them with basic living expenses, and provide the stability they need after such a traumatic experience. Every donation will make a difference and help them rebuild their lives.
We know times are tough for many, and any support you can offer would mean the world to my grandparents and our family. Thank you so much for taking the time to read their story and for any help you can provide during this incredibly challenging time. Please be aware and educate those around you about the dangers of AI scams.
With heartfelt thanks,
Loran
