My Mom, Lorraine Cotter, is battling cancer for the second time in two years. In spring of 2016 she was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. After her initial series of treatments, she successfully went into remission. We all had hopes of that remission lasting for many years. Unfortunately, the disease had other plans. In May 2018, it has relapsed with a vengeance.
She in now undergoing a very aggressive form of chemotherapy leading her way up to a stem cell (aka bone marrow) transplant. This will require a 3-4 week stay in the hospital and many weeks of recovery. She is fortunate enough to be part of a drug trial that has proven to be of great value in fighting this disease. This therapy consists of three consecutive days of chemo including one overnight stay at the hospital. And, as I'm sure you can imagine, many trips to the hospital in between treatments.
While Lorraine is focusing on fighting cancer, she is unable to work. With treatment comes serious financial concerns and unexpected expenses. It would be a great gift for Mom and Wendy, her partner, to focus on her health care without added financial stress. Wendy is still working but managing her schedule around Mom's needs and therefore unable to work a full time schedule. All monies raised in this campaign will go toward helping them manage the reduction in income, increased expenses and the ongoing costs of life.
My Mom is a very special part of my life! She is a loving and caring Grandmother ("Grandma-rain"). I'm sure many of you know her as a supportive, funny, and an always ready to help friend or co-worker. And, what can I say about all of her siblings and family?? You all mean the world to her. Let's all hope and pray for remission so she can get back to the things she loves to do such as kayaking, walking the dogs, going to the beach and snow shoeing.
