Help Louise Palmer rebound from the Lahaina Fire

Starting over with nothing isn’t easy at any time of life, but doing so in one’s golden years might be one of the hardest times. Our sweet mother, Louise Palmer, lost all of her belongings and her lifetime's work of art and writing, in the Lahaina Fire this week. She also lost her home, the place she’d planned to stay in for the rest of her life, and the town she fell so deeply in love with. Our mama has had to start over too many times, and we’re gutted that she’s here again. The below is a photo of her condo building, The Channel House.
Most importantly, she’s safe: she was visiting her daughter in Washington, helping out with her two grandchildren, when the fire happened, so we’re grateful she wasn’t subjected to the trauma of escaping the fire or worse.
We’ve started this Go Fund Me to help her in the interim before insurance kicks in, and to assist with the many many costs that insurance inevitably will not cover. All of her savings were tied up in the apartment, and everything she owned outside of the suitcase she brought here. We'll deliver the money directly to her account, and be assisting her in navigating the roads of insurance and what the next steps are.
Moving to the ocean and Hawaii was a longtime dream of hers. Since our mother made the heartfelt decision to buy a condo in Lahaina, Palmer dedicated almost every one of his few vacation days to join her, not just for the company, but to transform that space into a genuine home. Together, we reimagined walls, fashioned bedrooms, infused ambiance with elegant lighting, redesigned the kitchen from scratch, and replaced the entire air conditioning system. We poured love and hard work into every nook and cranny, ensuring that it would be a haven for her during her golden years.
Unfortunately, the true value of our combined efforts will likely go unrecognized by the insurance adjusters, as we never had the opportunity to have the home officially appraised after our renovations.
This GoFundMe is not just about financial aid; it's about hope, resilience, and coming together. It aims to support my mother in the interim—giving her a place to stay and some semblance of normalcy while we navigate the aftermath of this devastating event. Our hearts are heavy with grief, but they're also filled with gratitude that she is safe. We extend our deepest sympathies to the vibrant communities of Lahaina and Maui, as we all grapple with our individual losses and collectively embark on the journey of rebuilding.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in this time of need.
