Help Luca buy new “ears”

Luca is a sweet, loving and smart 6 year old boy that is about due for new hearing aids. We first found out about his hearing loss when he was only 1 day old in the hospital. At 6 weeks old, we began taking him to his audiologist, Miss Beth. Upon initial testing, he was diagnosed with mild to moderate loss in his left ear and a severe loss in his right ear. We worked with her for about 2 years until we decided that we would fit him for his new “ears”. Fortunately for us, he took to the new hearing aids in less than one day. Since that time he has always referred to them as his “ears”. Luca has been seeing Miss Beth regularly since 6 weeks old and absolutely loves going to see her. Recently she suggested that it was time for a new set of hearing aids. When she handed us the quote we almost fell over when we saw what new hearing aids cost. Luckily, his first pair was covered fully by a New York State program for children.  Unfortunately, all subsequent pairs(which have about a 4 year life) are not covered by any insurance plans offered by our employers. 

These new hearing aids have so much more technology than his current set that will hopefully make things easier for him. In this new world of everyone wearing a mask, it’s been difficult for him because he was relying on lip reading as well. The new technologies have improved sound and FM transmitters built in which will make life a lot easier when in school.
