Help Lucas and his Unpredictable Fight
Donation protected
Lucas is the sweetest 2-year-old with two sisters (Aleah, age 10, and Emma, age 7) and one brother (Tyler, age 9) who love him dearly. Lucas has been dealt a raw deal. At just 11 months old, in February of 2024, he was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. This tumor took up the entire left ventricle and began to cross over into the right ventricle of his brain. It was attached at his brain stem. He went through 2 incredibly risky surgeries to remove it, and when he came out, he was completely paralyzed on the right side of his body from head to toe. Then he had brain fluid leaking through the hole that they used to perform the removal and had to have a shunt placed. We left the hospital after 3 weeks but had to return for a second shunt to be placed and then replaced just a few weeks later due to infection while healing. Lucas has had numerous brain scans over the past year, and there was no indication of any tumor regrowth. He has been working incredibly hard, going to therapy twice a week for about 3 hours at a time, and regained all of his functions, just with some weakness on the right side of his body. But we were hopeful for him to live a mostly normal life. The brain tumor that he had is an incredibly rare Neurocytoma, a tumor that is mainly benign, and for them to spread is even more rare. We have now been in the hospital since April 7th, 2025. The tumor metastasized into his spinal column. It’s a jelly-like tumor that encapsulates almost his entire spine and is compressing his spinal cord. At the moment, he no longer can void on his own, he has no feeling from the waist down, he has very limited trunk control, and he does not feel his right arm. He has started daily radiation along with chemo for the next 6 weeks in hope to at least alleviate some of his symptoms as well as try to pull a Hail Mary and fight this unknown cancer. Lucas also has 3 siblings at home that we are trying to make sure they are still living as undisrupted as possible. This leaves me at the hospital while they stay at home with their dad and go to school and work and maybe visit on the weekends. Although Lucas does have Medicaid, we’ve been told that there is a limit, and we don’t know if and when they will stop coverage. We also have added expenses at home with trying to alter our routine with me, the main caregiver, being away. Any contributions will go directly to the care of both Lucas and his siblings while we navigate this new chapter in our lives.
