Help Lucy Adapt & Modify Her Home

Donation protected
Lucy’s home will need extensive modifications so that she can return home and live life as comfortably as possible.

Her husband Peter wrote this…
”Lucy is 50 and hadn’t had a day off sick in over 10 years, but in April 2023 she had a niggling cough that lingered. Whilst away for my 50th birthday she suddenly became extremely breathless and couldn't walk 20 yards without being exhausted. We decided to head back to London and then go straight to A&E at The Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough where she was taken straight into Resus to be assessed. 24 hours later we were informed that it could be cancerous fluid around the lungs and four days later Lucy was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which was incurable.

Lucy began her chemotherapy treatment in May 2023 and had seven rounds of intense treatment before undergoing surgery on the 13th of November, which included a full abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral oophorectomy, omentectomy and debulking. That went well but shortly after her wound opened so they had to treat that as well; because of the open wound her treatment had to stop while they treated the wound and unfortunately her cancer markers went back up in March 2024, which meant they had to change her drugs. After a few rounds it seemed to be under control but sadly the cancer came back while she was having treatment so again it meant change of treatment as this one wasn't working. Now in doing so, this means that this is Lucy's last chance treatment wise and she is currently in Guys Hospital and has been for seven weeks as she has a blockage in her bowel. This means she has to be fed nutrition straight into her bloodstream so to bypass the bowel and let that rest.

Lucy's legs are extremely weak, she can't get her legs up the three steps to the house so she needs a ramp outside for her wheelchair. She'll also need a stairlift as the stairs will be too much for her and the bathroom needs transforming into a shower room”.

Hopefully Lucy can be discharged soon to go home to her family, where she's so dearly missed but they need to make some adjustments to the house first.

The wheels are now firmly in motion to get Lucy home to her husband and daughter Lauren. Her tumour markers have come down which is a clear indication that this round of chemotherapy is working.
In order for Lucy to live a comfortable life at home there needs to be a few significant adaptations to her home as Peter has mentioned.

There is sadly no immediate funding available for this and the waiting times are approximately two years.
Anybody who has lived with someone with Stage 4 cancer will know; waiting isn’t an option and time is fundamentally the most precious thing.

I’m certain that if all of Lucy, Peter and Lauren’s loved ones, family, friends and community came together then we could really help Peter make these important modifications happen and allow Lucy to be back home and comfortable.

Quotes are already being given and the stairlift alone is almost £6000 which is why we are setting the target at £10,000.

It doesn’t matter how much you give because every penny REALLY DOES MATTER!
£1, £5, £50 or £500……anything you can spare to take away the stress will undoubtedly be truly appreciated.

Please share this page with everyone you know, with local community boards, in and around the Penge pubs….anything really to spread the word and get the work underway as soon as possible. Thank you
