Help Lucy and Sofia Rebuild Their Lives

Imagine suddenly being forced to leave your home, your friends, and the country you love, only being allowed to take one small suitcase with you.

 

When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, this nightmare scenario became a reality for millions of Ukrainians. Two of the Ukrainians affected by this horror are my heart: my sister Lucy and niece Sofia. After two weeks of air raid sirens and taking shelter in our mother’s basement, Lucy and Sofia finally headed west to escape.

 

This GoFundMe account will help my sister (who has been my rock for my entire life) and niece (who is so brilliant you can see her shine all the way over here in the U.S.) put a new life together in a different country.

 

The current plan is for them to find an apartment in or near Warsaw, Poland, as a temporary home base to figure things out. Their U.S. visas expired, and it is nearly impossible to renew them under current circumstances. We don’t exactly know what the next several months will hold – we just knew the most critical first step was getting Lucy and Sofia out of Ukraine. So we’re taking things one day at a time.

 

I started this GoFundMe account to provide them about nine months in a safe place to piece their lives back together and leave the horrors of war behind them. I have set the goal at $30,000 – the average apartment rental in Warsaw is approximately $1,700 per month, and living expenses for two people are roughly $1,500 per month.
