Help Lucy Save Boulderdash’s Senior Cat!
Donation protected
This is Lucy, a route setter and coach at Boulderdash SFV. In April 2024, our staff (thank you Conor, Adrian and Luke) noticed a black cat wandering and living near the gym’s truck docking area. It seemed weak and lethargic so we started offering some food. It had horrible matting all over her body and I decided to capture it so we can at least get it checked.
Fast forward to last Friday 4/26, my co-worker Jared, another setter at SFV, and staff Karmen were able to assist me and we successfully managed to rescue the black cat. I took it to the vet immediately after work, and turned out she’s a lady.
We couldn’t get much done since she wasn’t familiar to handling, the vet suggested I help her used to human presence before another thorough checkup.
I brought her home and she was still very skittish but soon opened up to petting and allowed me to groom and trim the matting all while purring. This is where I found couple of open sores on her belly, even though she had appetite she remained lethargic for the next few days and wouldn’t move much all day.
Today, Wednesday 5/1, I was confident that she could handle another vet visit and she did great, but Vet gave us heartbreaking news. She had a fracture canine, very skinny and severely dehydrated, has an orange size mass in her abdomen, and vet suggested that she’s 10+ years ago. We have decided to move forward with a preliminary treatment to improve her condition in case she needs surgery, in the meantime she’ll have a guided ultrasound and blood work done. Hopefully we will have result before next week, however, she is highly likely to be diagnosed with cancer and we are not even sure whether she is in an operable state.
I am so grateful that we were able to rescue this senior cat.
I could not imagine another reality where she starved and died from pain alone somewhere dark and filthy. I am determined to give her the best quality of life while she still can enjoy so.
I have never done a GoFundMe ever for myself or anybody but I’m reaching out to our community, as the first bill has already surpassed $2000, and since we don’t have time to get her any insurance, I’m so happy that I’m capable to take care of her financially out of pocket. However, when she needs major surgery or hospice care it would for sure cost more, so I’m reaching out to my community and friends, I’ll have all the help I can get.
I truly believe this is the work of The Cat Distribution System. This cat randomly came to my life, I randomly decided to rescue it, and just so happened at a time when she needed help the most, and just so happened I am in position to offer that. I am determined to make this work. So thank you! For caring! For helping me help a senior cat on her last bit of the journey on this earth.
All donations will go to black cat’s medical care cost, I’ll keep posting her vet updates and bills on social media and here for transparency.
In case of excessive funds (which I highly doubt it will), it will be either donated to Ventura county animal rescue or a rescue organization of the community suggestion, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me personally if you have any questions or would love to come check on her at our place!
