Help Luke and Emily's Chihuahuas Recover from Attack
Donation protected
On Tuesday 10/22/24, Luke and our two precious chihuahuas were viciously attacked right outside our house by a loose pitbull. Luke had just barely started their morning walk and hardly made it across the street when he was mowed down by the pit. Our dogs were both in their harnesses and leashed, as they always are. I was able to run out and get the dog off of them with the help of a neighbor, but not before significant injuries occurred to our dear dogs.
Mattie and Neumann, our 11lb and 8lb chihuahuas were both rushed to emergency surgery, and by some miracle are still alive and recovering at home. Mattie lost several teeth, has a gash in her neck and a sutured laceration in her abdomen. Neumann has two inch gashes on the top and bottom of his neck that went down to the muscle, from the pit trying to bite his little head off. He also has an ulcerated eye, and a chunk missing from his thigh. They both had to receive x rays, anesthesia, sutures, and multiple medications, and will require several follow up visits. Our vet bill was almost $5,000, and climbing.
If you know us, you know how important those dogs are to us. They are our babies, and the sweetest chihuahuas you could ever meet. Their two walks a day were the highlight of their world, and it will be months before they can even wear their collars or harnesses again, let alone go walking anywhere. Our three year old little boy has been walking with Daddy most mornings, but by the grace of God, he and his baby brother both decided to sleep in that morning. It doesn’t bear thinking about what could have happened if he was out there with them. Unfortunately he did climb out of bed and witness the attack out his bedroom window, which has left him absolutely traumatized.
We are asking the community for financial help in the terrible situation to tackle the climbing vet bills. Luke is a full time working musician, and I only just went back to work part time after being laid off when our baby was only 4 weeks old. This event has had significant repercussions on our finances, as well as our mental and emotional state. Mattie and Neumann are the toughest dogs out there, and they will recover in time. Please help us tackle these enormous bills and ongoing expenses, so we can focus on getting them back to a new normal.
