Help Mac Heal After Vicious Dog Attack

Donation protected

My dog Mackenzie (Mac) and I were taking our standard afternoon walk. Mac is a Great Pyrenees, and is traditionally very strong. Because of that I walk him with two collars ( a prong collar AND a martingale collar as backup), and two leashes—one for each collar.

As we were walking minding our own business and bothering no one, two pit bulls—both OFF LEASH—came running up onto us and attacked Mac! Because Mac was constrained with the dual collars and leashes, he couldn’t properly protect himself. They tore into his head and ears as well as created two gashes on his side. It took myself and 5 other bystanders who all rushed to help (6 of us total) to separate the three dogs. The white pit bull bit into his ear and wouldn't let go while the brown pit bull bit his stomach. I was so afraid at the time that he would lose his ear, and it took multiple neighbors to get the two dogs off of Mac. When we finally separated the dogs, Mac was bleeding profusely from his left ear. It wasn’t until after the dogs had all been separated that the completely irresponsible owner came out of her home, hearing the ruckus.

After the attack, because of the blood and open wounds I took Mac to the Veterinary Emergency Room in Burbank. The irresponsible owner of thee pit bulls informed me en route to the hospital that she had no money and that her credit was shot, and that she wouldn’t be able to pay for what her dogs had incited and the damage they’d done to Mac, which was entirely her fault.

Because the owner wouldn’t take their responsibility to cover these expensive bills, we’ve had to. In addition, Mac will have to be seen every 2 days for the next two-weeks to clean, inspect and change his head dressing (he has to wear a head covering AND a cone for 2+ weeks), had to have methadone injected yesterday for pain, and is on a regimen of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain medicine as well. But it doesn’t stop there.

I found out at the ER that neither pit bull was current with any of their vaccinations or shots. As a results more bloodwork and tests have to be done to Mac, as well as additional regular bloodwork to monitor his condition. And depending on all of that, there is an indeterminate aspect to the total cost of all treatment moving forward.

Can you please help me raise some money to help with some steep vet bills? Any size donation will be greatly appreciated, as well as if you will, please share the link to my GoFundMe campaign.

I know there are several of you out there who have encountered aggressive, off-leash dogs who have irresponsible owners. Maybe some of you have even had to deal with dog attacks of your own. Hopefully this campaign can raise some awareness that can send a message to those irresponsible owners who unconscionably let their dogs roam off-leash…and after their dogs viciously and aggressively attack innocent animals (or people), refuse to do the right thing and cover the expenses from the traumatic damage their dogs have done.

Thank you for your consideration and your help!
