Help Mack Torrez Rebuild His Garage

Donation protected

UPDATE:

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who donated to our rebuild fund. We are humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of people, both near and far!

Three months later and we have made some progress. We had a group of wonderful friends and family who got into the thick of the ash and rubble and helped us demolish and clear out the burnt garage. As heartbreaking as this experience has been, it has also restored our faith in humanity. The Lowrider Community, personal friends and family, and the Pueblo community all stepped up and supported us.

As we move forth in planning to rebuild a garage/shop in the next few months, we hold dear each of you and will always remember that it was a community that kept us moving forward.

Muchísimas gracias!

Last night our dad’s garage burned to the ground with all of his tools, and many cars and parts that he has been saving and collecting his entire life.

My dad is 58 years old and was looking forward to finally retiring from his main job so that he could live out his true passion and dream which was to work on building cars in his garage. The fire took cars he passed down to us; a 69 Chevy impala, 48 custom gmc lowrider truck that we were just getting ready to paint and my grandpas Chevy truck that my dad just finished working on for him. Every car in there is custom fabricated by him. The titles to all of the cars burned right along with them.  This is so surreal that we are still trying to recollect all the items that were in that garage. This garage was my dad’s entire life, he spent almost 40 years buying tools, material, etc. to keep his passion alive building cars in this garage.

He works an extremely physically demanding job as a welder, sometimes putting in 16 hour days, working out of state and traveling. He was hanging in there at his job because he knew it paid the bills, hopeful to work happily in the garage on his projects in retirement. As devastating as this is and as much time as he spent in that building, we are very grateful that my dad wasn’t in the garage when the explosion happened and that he is okay and alive.

My siblings and I have put together this gofundme to help rebuild my dad a new garage or even just slowly buy some of the tools he needs to work. The cars are irreplaceable and everything had so much sentimental and monetary value. Our dad always remains positive and is hopeful that he will come back stronger after this and rebuild. Anyone who knows Mack knows how much of a hard worker he is and this garage was his second home and therapeutic outlet, it grounded him spiritually.
