Help Madelyn Thrive with Specialized Equipment

As we near the twins' birthday and the holidays we are incredibly grateful for family and friends that have reached out wanting to support Madelyn and unsure how to do so given her unique needs. For those unfamiliar with our journey, Madelyn and twin brother Maddox were born at 24 weeks gestation under 2 pounds due to preterm premature rupture of the membrane (PPROM). Madelyn suffered a bilateral, grade 4 brain hemorrhage at birth which led to hydrocephalus. She spent the first 128 days in the NICU fighting for her life alongside her brother Maddox who had severely underdeveloped, injured lungs. Her NICU stay included 2 brain surgeries to address the hydrocephalus and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) surgery shortly after being home to help prevent blindness.

Over the next 2.5 years, Madelyn was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, infantile spasms, Epilepsy, Cortical Vision Impairment and is globally developmentally delayed. Madelyn's condition prevents her from independently participating in, not only the fun activities that her peers and twin brother enjoy like circle time at school, but the mundane, everyday activities such as sitting at the dinner table, in the bathtub, in a shopping cart or on an airplane.

We have found adaptive equipment that has been specifically designed and adapted to her needs and decided to start a fundraiser to help cover the cost in lieu of gifts. Adaptive equipment for medically complex kids is, unfortunately, very expensive and rarely covered by insurance. A few items we have our eyes on are the Tomato Chair and the GoTo Seat - linked below.

Our goal is to raise $5,000! This amount will cover the cost of the seat support systems of any size, plus the adaptive add-on features she may need that cost extra such as lateral support, mobile base, etc. Any additional funds will go to the cost of the Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) therapy intensive Madelyn is scheduled for February 2025.
