Help Madison Preserve & Promote Operas Written by Women
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Madison! I am currently in my Master's in voice performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have an incredible chance to go to Europe this summer to research operatic works written by women.
I have always been highly interested in music written by female composers and passionate about their preservation and performance, because their music is so often under-credited, overlooked and ignored.
However, there is a vast body of operatic works written by women, most of which have never been published, performed, or digitized! It is so exciting to think that I could be part of the process of preserving and promoting these musical and theatrical works that have been previously unheard! This summer, I have the chance to research and digitize operatic works in several European cities, including Milan, Venice, Berlin, Dresden, Weimar, Munich, Vienna, Paris, London and Cambridge.
I have contacted librarians and museum curators in the libraries, universities and museums that are currently in possession of these original opera scores to ensure that I can handle these incredible scores carefully. I will digitize them to make them more readily available for public consumption and prepare them for upcoming performances, recordings and publications.
However, as a Master's student living in the Bay area, I desperately need financial aid to help me get to Europe to continue this research and promotion of these musical works. Any assistance would be humbly and incredibly appreciated, and I promise to use it as efficiently and economically as possible. If you have any questions about my itinerary or project, please don't hesitate to reach out, and share with your music-loving and women-empowering friends!
