UPDATE as of March 2023:
Friends and family, we are writing today to provide an update of what has happened over the last few months. Magali underwent a chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant in November 2022. Right before Christmas of 2022, she was discharged from the hospital and was able to go home. In February 2023 she was admitted back into the hospital after running a cold. Unfortunately, her cold wouldn’t go away and continued to develop into more serious illnesses. After learning that Magali’s body was rejecting her bone marrow transplant, on February 21 we received the most heartbreaking news we could ever imagine. Magali has been diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia and Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia — a very aggressive cancer and extremely difficult to treat. She is currently undergoing her first round of a mild chemotherapy. From there she will be receiving a stronger treatment and dad and mom are staying bedside every single day. We ask for your support and prayers while we support Magali in her fight against this cancer. Any help, and all prayers, are appreciated.
NOVEMBER 2022:
Hello family and friends,
Most of you know how hard the past two years have been for our family. In October 2021 we lost our baby girl Mia due to her diagnosis with Anencephaly. In January 2022, our entire family got COVID. While we all seemed to get better shortly after, William (dad) was back at work and girls were back at school, but Magali on the other hand did not show signs of improvement.
We took her to see her doctor and had them do a series of lab tests. To our surprise, we were told to immediately take Magali to the ER because her hemoglobin levels were at a 2.1 and he had never seen such a low number. For reference, a normal hemoglobin level is 10 or above.
Magali was admitted into the oncology unit, where she received her first blood transfusion. Fast forward to today, Magali has been receiving blood transfusions for nearly a year. They happen regularly, every two to four weeks.
Magali was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called Monosomy 7 (a genetic disorder) and will be admitted into the hospital beginning November 2, 2022, for a bone marrow transplant. During her first four days in the hospital, Magali will undergo an intense chemotherapy. On November 8, Magali will receive her transplant. Magali will be a live-in patient at the hospital for up to three months and during this time, me (mom), dad and family members will take shifts so she is never alone.
We ask that you please keep our baby girl in your thoughts and prayers and send her healing wishes. Magali will be going through a lot at such a very young age. While we are scared, she has proven to all of us that she is very strong and resilient and will make it out of this.
If you can help with anything while Magali is in the hospital, we would greatly appreciate it. William (dad) is the only one working and will be taking a lot of time off of work to do shifts in the hospital with Magali. Our family is faced with financial insecurity during this time.
Any little bit will be very helpful and mean so much to us.
Thank you so much,
