Help Magdi and his family evacuate Gaza

Hello, my name is Shannon and I am making this fundraiser for a family member in Gaza. I am a Palestinian-American and was raised hearing the stories of my grandparent's escape during the Nakba. A few years ago, Magdi and I connected via Facebook and have become friends. Here he has told me more of our family history and about his family in Gaza City. I learned that Magdi is married with 3 children. He was previously a government employee and his wife Alaa worked for the Palestinian University.

Since October, Magdi and his family of 5 have been displaced multiple times, now disconnected from his parents and other family. As they've moved south, they've moved from shelter to shelter until most recently stopping in Rafah. Currently they are living in a tent in Rafah. Magdi has been able to keep me updated every so often. I have asked multiple times how I could help. Until now the has only asked for prayers.

Most recently his messages have changed. The family is desperate to survive and are seeking a more permanent solution. After 100 days of terror, the painful decision to leave their homeland comes with a cost. He estimates that it will cost a minimum of $5000 per person to evacuate through Egypt. This will only be the beginning of their cost burdens, but we hope this immediate help will ensure safety as they figure out what is next.

Despite the circumstances, I am glad to be opening this aid to help in a way that was offered to my grandmother, grandfather, and their children 75 years ago. I believe in the power of community. Thank you for your care and support.
