We Are Here Asking for Support in Rebuilding the Very Center of Our Farm—Our Greenhouse After It Was Destroyed by a Severe Snowstorm.

On March 14, 2024, our area of Colorado experienced a significant snowstorm, dropping over 20 plus inches of heavy wet snow. Even though we have had big storms in the past, this was beyond anything we’ve experienced in all the years that we have lived here. This snow was wet and heavy, which stuck to everything, including the roof of our high tunnel. Unlike other storms, the snow didn’t simply slide off, but accumulated until the heart of our grow operation (our largest greenhouse) collapsed under the weight. This is simply devastating to our small farm and our ability to continue to provide food, and education, to the community. We quickly found out that our insurance did not cover the greenhouse, except in situations of fire, so here we are at a 100% loss. When we found this out, we were even more devastated. We have contacted the federal, and state, Departments of Agriculture, among many other agencies hoping to obtain help through grants, or other programs, but to no avail. It seems that in most parts of Colorado, there has been no funding developed for farms in need after a disaster of this kind.

A little about John and Sabrina and Majestic Moon Ranch:

My wife and I bought our small farm 15 years ago with the goal to become self-sustaining, provide organic produce to the local communities, and help to educate/teach our communities how to grow, preserve, and store healthy foods. We have created a FB page (Facebook @MajesticMoonRanch) that shares information on growing, producing, and storing food, cooking ideas and information on growing/making herbal tinctures and salves for medicinal use. We are here to help people in creating a more self-sustaining lifestyle. We’ve been successful with this over the years, and we have been blessed with thousands of followers that have given us feedback, and thanks, on how we’ve inspired them to pick up the challenge to grow their own food or to take the leap to begin their own homestead. Many others simply follow us and live “this life” through our experience and implement what they can while living in the city. We love their excitement, and the life changes that they make when they learn that they can grow their own food even living in their apartment! It’s been such a blessing to hear all the positive impacts that the farm has had on people’s lives, and we are so thankful, every day, to our followers that keep us going and doing what we do, especially during times when this life can be very difficult, physically and financially.

So, what is Majestic Moon Ranch, exactly?

Majestic Moon is a small-scale organically run produce farm with production Spring through late Fall. We also provide organically raised, farm-fresh, free range, hormone and antibiotic-free eggs. We’re unique in the fact that our farm is at 6800 feet (about 2.07 km) in elevation, which makes growing extremely difficult with the severe weather that we face living on the Palmer Divide. We try and educate our followers on how to grow in these harsh conditions, where dropping a seed in the ground and waiting for it to produce fruit isn’t an option. We produce food, and teach our classes, on our actual farm. Our overall goal at Majestic Moon is to provide education to others on how to live a sustainable and healthy lifestyle, while providing healthy food to the surrounding communities. We also raise chickens, alpacas, llamas, camels, and of course care for our other furry critters of cats and dogs. With our chickens, they are our pets, we don’t eat or sell them for meat; eggs only. When our birds stop laying eggs, they get a wonderful life and free range as they live out the reminder of their time on this earth.

We have always climbed our way out of farm hardship/repair so many times, but now we need help.

Having a farm comes with many challenges, all of which we’ve been able to overcome or get through in the past. We have spent tens of thousands of dollars on veterinary expenses for our animals, doing necessary surgeries when they’ve been sick and doing everything in our power to save them. We’ve had weather destroy our chicken enclosures, damage barn roofs, damage the structure of our house, you name it...we’ve been faced with it and have been able to overcome it utilizing savings to build and rebuild. This includes the health issues that come along with raising livestock, and physical farm work, that have resulted in broken arms, broken ribs, collapsed lungs, shoulder tears and surgeries to fix them all...lol. So, we’re not quick to ask for help or accept that we can’t overcome any adversity we’re faced with, because we’ve always been able to. The loss of this greenhouse, however, is simply a setback we cannot do on our own. Not only due to the overwhelming expense to replace it, but the physical aspect of rebuilding ourselves is no longer an option, as we both have pending surgeries to fix on-going injuries that we can longer work through and other health challenges that simply come with age that must be addressed this year. We need help this time.

Our ask.

So as much as we’ve tried to brainstorm and figure a way to overcome this setback, we’ve realized this is our last hope and we ask for your help. We love teaching others how to be self-sustaining, how to grow and be self-sufficient, how to can and preserve food, and to help establish ways to help in these times of need with increasing food costs and inflation. We want people to succeed in their willingness to learn to grow their own food and/or have access to organically grown food from a local farm that they can be assured is healthy and clean. We ask for your donations so we can rebuild the heart of our farm and can continue to provide classes, healthy food, and information to the public.

The costs breakdown we’re asking help to cover is as follows:

Greenhouse Kit
Farmtek - 30’ x 72’ $13,650

Cost to dismantle and remove
Damaged greenhouse $ in kind (we are going to do this ourselves)

Bids received for
labor to build new GH $9,640

Total GFM request: $23,290

Thank you for your time considering our GoFundMe. Any donations are greatly appreciated, and we hope we can continue to inspire and educate you and others on this life we love. We'd appreciate if you'd share our story.

Thank you again,
John and Sabrina
