paralysis likely, surgery, accessible home
Donation protected
I am setting up this gofundme page to help my sister's family with unexpected expenses due to a recent accident. On Sunday, February 13, 2022, Gerry and Kristi were getting their 3 kids ready to go sledding with a few friends from school when Gerry fell and broke his neck. He was at the trauma center getting scans and prepped for an emergency surgery to stabilize his neck, C5-C6, from the front.
Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Gerry underwent the second part of surgery to stabilize his neck from the back. The doctors are taking excellent care of Gerry, but he does not have any feeling from the chest down and told the family this is a "life-debilitating injury"; paralysis is the likely outcome.
Two additional procedures are being scheduled this week.
The last 48 hours have been filled with so many emotions, shock, and disbelief. We are heartbroken for their children and conversations they will have in the coming weeks to explain to the children (10, 7, 5 years old) that there will be a new "normal" for their daddy.
In addition to numerous medical expenses, they will need to remodel their home to be handicap accessible. This means creating a bedroom/bathroom downstairs, an accessible ramp to get into the house, a vehicle to transport him to appointments, and many other unexpected necessities.
Please consider making a donation to support Gerry and his family on this long journey to recovery. Gerry is a husband, dad, son, brother, friend and music teacher. God's not done writing his story.
We have not lost hope and strongly believe in the power of prayer. Please keep Gerry in your prayers.
Thank you for your prayers and generosity.
