Help Make Mirian’s Dream Possible!

This summer I was able to work on a bridge-building project in a rural town in Bolivia. While in the country, my team hired a chef through our organization. We quickly grew very close to our chef, Mirian, and learned that her dream was to go to school for graphic design.

But although it’s her dream, the cost is unattainable for her with her current salary. Therefore she is forced to give up on her dream and settle for culinary school (scholarships are not applicable in Bolivia). So her plan is to alternate years with culinary school and working, to obtain a well-paying job that will help her be able to afford going to college for graphic design in later years. This will take, at the very least, around 8 years.

Mirian is hard-working and devoted, and she has continued to exceed all that is expected of her in her work. She would wake up 3 hours earlier than the team in order to create incredible food, single handedly she organized all of the purchasing of food, and she tended to the needs of each team member. She would always work with a smile and create two separate meals for the two vegan members. She cared for the team when members were sick by making soup and tea, in addition to all the other work necessary for her to complete. She even taught a few of the members how to cook classic Bolivian dishes. As a way of saying thank you, my team wants to raise money for her to go to school. The cost of 5 years of school is around 50,000 bolivianos or around 7,500 USD.
