Hi, I’m Kit Birks, a writer, mental health activist and soon to be endurance adventurer. This July, I’m setting out on an 8,500 km trek from Nordkapp, Norway, to Gavdos Island, Greece—a world-first journey spanning Arctic tundra, mountain ranges, and sun-scorched trails.
I’m walking to raise awareness and funding for suicide prevention and mental healthcare, supporting two incredible charities CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and AuDHD. As someone who is a recovering addict with Bipolar, ADHD and PTSD, and as someone who has thought about and tried taking my own life multiple times - this is a cause very close to my heart.
How You Can Be Part of the Journey
This trek isn’t just mine—it’s ours. Every step I take, every story I share, is for those who have struggled, who have fought, and who are still fighting.
If you have lost a loved one to suicide and you're okay sharing their name, I would love to carry them with me too, by writing their name right next to yours. I will also be creating a space on my website for people to share their stories (more about this soon).
Why This Crowdfunding?
I’ve set up a Just Giving page where every penny goes directly to charity. But to make this journey possible—to fund the equipment, supplies, and logistics I’ll need for a year on the road—I need your help.
This trek isn’t just about walking. It’s about starting a movement—a call for better mental health support, a push for change, and a story of resilience that I’ll be sharing every step of the way through my social media platforms.
What Your Support Covers
Every contribution helps cover:
- Specialist gear
- Tech & filming equipment
- Food & resupply costs
- Transport for key sections (ferries, unavoidable transfers)
- Emergency contingencies
- Time to focus on training and spreading awareness for this challenge.
Together, We Can Walk for Change
This is bigger than me. It’s about breaking the silence around suicide and mental health, proving that we can survive what once felt impossible, and showing the world the power of endurance—both on the trail and in life.
Every donation, share, and word of encouragement fuels this journey. Thank you for believing in me, in this trek, and in the change we can create together.
Let’s do this. Let’s Stride Beyond Silence Together.
