Create AUDIOBOOK of VACCINES & BAYONETS

My mission (and I choose to accept it) is to educate and inspire one reader, one audience, at a time.

To further that mission I plan to have VACCINES & BAYONETS: Fighting Smallpox in Africa amid Tribalism, Terror and the Cold War recorded as an audiobook.

Respected journalists have praised it. Many have loved reading it! Now we need to hear it!

How do I know it's good enough to be an audiobook?

Foreign Policy magazine's deputy editor says it makes for "riveting reading" and "is a reminder that public health campaigns are still inextricably intertwined with politics." The Economist's former Johannesburg bureau chief says it's a "sympathetic, vividly told and useful record. . . ." A Pulitzer Prize-nominated author says it "reads like a political thriller, women's history and African adventure rolled into one."

The book was an Amazon #1 Bestseller in Medical History, #1 in Special Topics in Medicine, #1 in History of West Africa and #1 in African History. It was a historical nonfiction finalist in the 2022 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

Who wants audiobooks?

Everywhere I go, everywhere I speak, people ask me when I'm releasing the audiobook. I'm getting the message.

A new audience base is consuming books and other information differently than in the past. The audiobook trend is growing daily for any number of reasons: ability to listen during long flights or other commutes, ability to multi-task, and accessibility for those with vision challenges, dyslexia or even arthritis. Others choose audiobooks simply for the sheer enjoyment of the more immersive experience a talented voice actor can bring to the book.

Meet the Actor and Narrator

Claudia Dunn, a classically trained actor and award-winning voice actor, will narrate Vaccines & Bayonets. Besides the many books she has narrated, she does the Audio Description for many PBS Masterpiece productions among other high-profile projects. Claudia’s years of serving in the White House West Wing Press Office over two administrations, traveling the world with the U.S. President and Press Corps, make her narration the perfect fit for the embassy and political intrigue aspects of this book. Her years as a practicing occupational therapist inform her passion for its historic and victorious public health story, and she has recently become personally acquainted with the author, giving her a feel for the author's personality and passions. I am humbled by her interest in narrating Vaccines & Bayonets.

What would the $2300 cover?

Individuals who are a part of the story of Vaccines & Bayonets have given much of the amount required to fund this project. The GFM goal, $2300, is still needed in order to give the go-ahead to make the audiobook a reality. The funds will cover narration, editing, mastering of the audio files, distribution, cover design and some initial marketing at launch. Any funds received over and above the goal amount will be gratefully accepted and used to give an important boost to marketing.

Again, my mission (and I choose to accept it) is to educate and inspire one reader, one audience at a time. I hope my book and my talks inspire people to do just one thing to make a difference. I look forward to an audiobook expanding that influence.
