My desire to leave Norway is perhaps Twitter's best kept secret but the cat is out of the bag, and I'm leaving with purpose.
In 2023, I'm going to be "up-skilling" via a degree program, building on my experience and training, to make my contribution to reproductive justice. I'm still waiting for notification on which clinical placement I'll be in, but all three of my choices care for the underserved in Black communities disproportionately affected by infant and maternal mortality.
I won't go into further detail for privacy and safety concerns, but this is a return to a long held dream and I cannot overstate my excitement...but the finance of it all!
The weakness of the kroner makes this transition so much harder than it was when I left home, and there are so many expenses involved just in getting myself and a few possessions across the water, not including the hundreds of dollars of fees to renew healthcare licenses that have been dormant while I was abroad, textbooks, and clinical equipment that each student needs to have.
There's also the small matter of living and transportation expenses while juggling being on call and a disabled body, both of which will limit my ability to work outside of my training.
I'm sorting out some flexible, home based gig work (+ launching two new book series in 2023!), and I'll be taking on more student loan debt to even attempt it, but that's barely going to cover my tuition.
I need your help to pull this off.
Anything you contribute will help, and if 20,000 of you let me hold a dollar I should be able to make a dent in this mountain. If you have more than that to spare it will help me complete my program with minimal damage to my already "mature" body so that I have energy to spare when they turn me loose as a fully qualified midwife.
Full disclosure: this campaign is run by Aurelius Raines II, my writing doula turned crit partner who gasses me up when I need to keep going, due to Go Fund Me's withdrawal requirements.
