Our dear friend’s daughter, Makenzie Thompson, is a carefree loving and energetic 14 year old with her whole future ahead of her. Her world was abruptly turned upside down on March 12th. She was having shortness of breath, her mother Jeanette, took her to her primary care doctor under the assumption it was her asthma. Unfortunately it wasn’t that simple, a few days later she was diagnosed with Acute T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (A.L.L.).
A mass was found in her chest pressing on her heart and trachea. This caused the shortness of breath and an extremely high heart rate. Her primary care doctor sent her to Hurley Medical Center, but she was quickly transferred to U of M’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. This long distance drive increased the financial burden and physical strain.
Makenzie has undergone multiple tests, biopsies, and procedures more than any 14 year old should endure. Chemotherapy is being administered intravenously and also directly in her spinal cord into her central nervous system to help shrink the tumors. She is unable to receive any sort of sedation medications whatsoever due to the location of the mass. This makes these procedures excruciatingly painful. Unfortunately, additional masses have been found throughout her body. This is going to be a tremendously long journey for Makenzie and Jeanette. The doctors estimate that she will continue treatments for at least 3 years.
Her journey thus far has been completely overwhelming mentally, physically, and financially. Jeanette is a single/only parent who has tirelessly worked multiple jobs to support her daughter and herself. Never in a million years would anyone expect healthy vivacious Makenzie to have to endure this disease.
Some of you reading this may already know Jeanette as a loving friend or family member. Some of you may remember Jeanette as a long time, hardworking server at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club. Some of you may not know them at all, but we are asking for any financial support you can give to help offset medical and day to day living expenses. They need all the prayers and help we can give!
