Help Makita get cancer treatment!

Donation protected
Hello everyone! To my lovers of equines, animals, & beautiful souls ~ my sweet, hooved friend Makita & her family are seeking assistance to help with her cancer treatment.

Makita was found with a large wound on her back end around the end of May. After getting treated by the doctor, her family waited for several weeks to observe the healing process after clean-up and a round of antibiotics. Upon further investigation, the veterinarian has diagnosed her with squamous cell carcinoma - a cancerous tumor, potentially in her stomach. Her symptoms are quickly getting worse, and she is getting taken down from Cheyenne, WY to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO for an initial examination by their department.

We will know more soon about exactly how much treatment will cost, and how soon they will be able to act on it.

Makita is loved dearly by her two humans and four four-legged friends at home, including her bestie - a chestnut gelding named Coco.

Any amount donated is wildly helpful in this process, and we are grateful for all it!

Can’t donate? That’s okay! Sharing is also super, super helpful!

Sending everyone big love,
❤️ Jessalyn and Chris

**9/5 UPDATE**
9/5 Current CSU Vet Clinic Invoice Total: $3,711.19

Makita has made some MIRACULOUS recovery!! Here's some texts I've received from Lynda (her amazing guardian) over the past few weeks:

8/10: She’s out of surgery and recovering well! She has an appetite and they’ll keep her until she’s passing manure normally. They got the mass out and were able to close most everything. Top of the incision has some dead space because they didn’t want to pull too much tension. She’s a trooper! ❤️

8/11:
1pm - She was sedated again today, having difficulty passing stool. They manually retrieved some, tubes to hydrate for softening. Opioids given. Want to keep today and overnight. Current bill 2100$

Refluxing the fluids, moving her to a more intensive care area. Two new docs and “emergency team”. Additional 1k$ estimate. Small colon impacted

7pm - She’s doing OK. She passed gas while I was there so that’s good, things are moving and she did eat some of the wet mash that they gave her… Not happy about it but she ate some so that’s promising. They will update me in the morning.!

8/12:
Did well overnight. Passed a small amount of soft manure this morning. Still a lot in there but with pain control and the feed they have her on, the surgical team is hopeful she’ll start passing more on her own. She was moved out of the critical care area and they will just keep monitoring. Hopefully she can come home tomorrow ❤️

8/13: Heading home!!!

8/16: Had to sedate her again today just to clean her. Won’t take meds, won’t let us near her backside at all tried kicking us yesterday. Safer to sedate and do what we had to. Trying to find out now next steps. It looks rough cause they had to open the top part to make it more comfortable for her

8/18: Surgeon is extremely happy with her progress! She is heading incredibly well. Will need to go back in two weeks to tack up one more area, but it looks and feels great!

9/5: Makita has an appointment at CSU at 1 and she wouldn’t load into the trailer without throwing a fit and I don’t want to get hurt so I had to cancel it I rescheduled for tomorrow so I’ll try to get some help. She looks to be healing great but I need her back for a recheck. We’re going to work on trailer stuff today! I’ll send you the invoice for her big day and hospital stay so you can see what she’s had done! Poor thing, I know she’s over it!
