READ MAMA ALIEN'S ORIGINAL STORY HERE
Joan, also known as Mama Alien, is an 87-year-old native New Yorker who has dedicated her life to spreading positivity and helping others. She has influenced countless lives across New York City with her kindness, creative spirit, and heartwarming demeanor. For many years, she was a social worker in Jamaica, Queens, tirelessly supporting New Yorkers in need.
During the great blackout of 1977, she gave birth to Michael Alan Alien, who is now a world-renowned artist living and working in NYC. She has been an incredible influence on his artwork throughout his career, and recently has become an art star herself through her work with her son and his partner Jadda Cat as an art family. During the pandemic, Alien relocated his art studio to a new space that functions as a place of eldercare for Mama Alien and a place of creativity where they make art together. Joan pours her heart into art, creating influential videos as the world's cutest art curator, making public art at Washington Square Park, and spreading positive energy wherever she goes. You can see the artwork here, and follow their artistic journey on Instagram and TikTok.
Over the years, Mama Alien has faced significant health challenges. She has experienced multiple falls, undergone a hip replacement, and now requires additional surgery on her throat due to aspiration issues. Her most recent battle with her health left her unable to walk and eat independently. On top of these struggles, Joan has faced profound personal losses, including her husband and most of her family. However, she has been lovingly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, who have been her primary caregivers for the past five years. Unfortunately, Joan's declining health has made home care increasingly difficult to manage, as her needs have grown far more intensive. She has been denied coverage and incurred unexpected bills after her stay at the hospital and rehab facility. Joan is comfortable back home with her art family where she can still put art out into the world, but she could use support to cover her new health needs. Please consider supporting by donating here on GoFundMe or collecting art from their online gallery.
