Help Manny and His Family Through This Tough Time

Manny is a super strong 5-year-old boy who has been hit with a devastating cancer diagnosis and is now a full-time patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the next 2 years or so.

He is fighting a rare form of cancer called high-risk neuroblastoma and he is Stage M (stage 4).

Super Manny is 1 of 400 kids in the US fighting this type of cancer. He has had major abdominal surgery to remove his largest tumor as well as his left kidney, spleen, and part of his diaphragm.

His cancer has spread into his lungs and is embedded in his diaphragm. Super Manny is in a research study that is very intensive and involves several types of chemo, radiation, stem cell transplants, and research medications. These drugs cause him to be admitted into the hospital several days to even weeks at a time, with daily appointments every day in between.

Manny’s mother, Alexus, is a single mother of 3 children: ages 7, 5, and 2. She will have to travel back and forth from Mississippi to Tennessee to be a mom to Manny’s two sisters as well as a full-time caregiver for Manny at St. Jude.

Due to his condition, he will have to be largely separated from his siblings to prevent infections as his immune system is suppressed. Alexus has been forced to quit her employment with the necessity and responsibilities of Manny’s care, as she has to be readily available at all times to help him fight the symptoms and infections that come with his condition.

She carries the financial weight of caring for her two healthy daughters as well as her sick son, the travel back & forth between them, and the normal costs of living and food as well as unanticipated needs with this medical journey.

We are asking for your support in ensuring this mom is able to be there for her children and care for them as she normally could before Manny’s diagnosis, as she now has to be a mom in two places at once.

With school starting soon there is major stress with being able to afford school costs for her girls.
