Help Marci Through Her Cancer Journey

As most are unaware, this past December my beautiful older sister Marci was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer & a very aggressive form of lung cancer called Small-cell carcinoma. What began as a short stay in the hospital for breathing issues, quickly escalated into a series of tests and procedures. The result was a heart-breaking and life-changing cancer diagnosis just three weeks later. To say the least, we were all utterly devastated when we heard the news. Marci now will have to enter the most emotionally, physically, and financially challenging phase of her life.

Because of the nature of her illness time was of the essence, so Marci had to immediately start treatment to fight this horrible disease. Just a week after her prognosis she had breast surgery to remove the tumor there, lymph nodes removed, a port inserted, and shortly thereafter, the start of chemotherapy, and radiation for her lung. This is just the beginning. As she moves on to her breast when her treatment for her lungs is complete and hopefully successful, it will most likely take years before her grueling treatment is finished.

As her sister, although I battle with how unjust this process feels, Marci’s strength and courage inspire me daily. She truly is a fearless fighter taking each day as it comes with bravery and fortitude. She is determined to stay positive and hopeful that her disease will potentially go into remission somewhere in the near future. The only thing that worries Marci is how she is going to pay these bills that have already started to pile up. Since her devoted husband is her caregiver and can’t work during this time, and she has already dug deep into her savings, this additional stress has made it hard on her. That is why I have set up a GoFund Me campaign to help Marci navigate through these financial burdens that will be bestowed on her over the next couple of years. She needs to concentrate on what’s most important at this time……her recovery. Your donations will be used specifically for medical needs like cold care treatments for neuropathy prevention of her fingers and toes, countless medicines and vitamin supplements, wigs due to her hair loss, a portable oxygen generator, travel to and from care facilities, and medical bills that aren’t paid for by insurance.

Now is the time that Marci really needs us! She has been so giving to her family and friends throughout the years, so now is the time we should rally around her.
