In 2018, Gairatjan Rozi, a talented Uyghur chef, trained in Europe and now settled in America, opened 'Marco & Polo' in Hyattsville. The restaurant's menu features the cuisine of his homeland, in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, with classic Uyghur dishes including hand-pulled laghman noodles, dumplings, and lamb kebabs, complemented by more familiar Turkish and Mediterranean fare.

Within just a few years, Mr. Rozi and his restaurant has earned the love of our community. His food & restaurant has been featured in the local press and has earned a dedicated following in the Washington DC region.

Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing Mr. Rozi to close his family-run kitchen, shutter his beloved restaurant, and put in storage his colorful collection of Uyghur artifacts which decorate 'Marco & Polo.'

But Mr. Rozi is hopeful. Having dedicated his new life in America to 'Marco & Polo,' he dreams of reopening his restaurant soon - in a new location that will attract even more customers who want to enjoy & explore both the cuisine and the Uyghur culture of Central Asia.
