Marcy's new moment---fighting Leiomyosarcoma

Donation protected
All it takes is a moment for life to change.

Many of us will never experience that moment when a doctor says, “you have cancer”. But Marcy Schafler knows, all too well. She lived it twice before. First, a rare and deadly uterine cancer, and then a separate primary breast cancer. Through it all, she did what she does, she pressed through the medical maelstrom to emerge strong, and smart, and brilliant.

Most of us will never know the moment of looking into your sons’ eyes to tell them their father died in a car accident. Yet, Marcy did just that. Though unspeakable, she did what she does, she pressed forward and raised her kids, as a single mom, and they emerged strong, and smart, and brilliant.

Marcy not only lived these moments, but she used these moments to grow in herself. Doing what she does, she relied on her own entrepreneurial spirit, paired it with her deep love of our human potential, and left corporate work to become a Pilates Instructor. Starting a studio business, Marcy became a Master Instructor for Balanced Body and threw her attentions to teaching new and enthusiastic teachers. In her doing what she does, her students emerge from her trainings strong, and smart, and brilliant.

Marcy did not give in to the circumstances that informed her life, instead she strung the painful moments alongside the many laughs and joyful moments to create a full and meaningful life for herself and her boys.

Now, Marcy is facing the biggest challenge of them all. The cancer, Leiomyosarcoma, is a rare insidious cancer that affects smooth muscle tissue. This cancer, likely a reoccurrence of the uterine cancer, leaves Marcy in biggest fight of her life.

To fight this cancer, to do what she does, Marcy will need two key resources, time and money. Marcy is a client centered practitioner and will need to limit her schedule if she is to have the time. Because this cancer is so rare and aggressive, she will also need treatments and interventions that will be beyond the boundaries and scope of basic health insurance and medical care. To do this, Marcy will need financial help.

As a caretaker, it is hard for Marcy to ask for help, which is why Linda and I writing to you. Make no mistake, trying to write to you today is perhaps the hardest thing we have ever done. How do we tell you about a friend, a mother, a daughter, a sister, diagnosed with a cancer we can-not even pronounce, with a prognosis that no one wants to ever hear, needs our help if she is to have the hope of doing what she does best, being strong, and smart, and brilliant.

Please consider contributing to support as Marcy seeks the doctors and medical treatments she will need to fight this cancer.  Any amount would be appreciated.

This is our moment.
