Help Margie Recover After Being Struck by a State Trooper

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,

On January 15, 2025, our beloved matriarch, Margie Mendez was running errands in Chestnut Hill when she was struck by a Massachusetts State Trooper as a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The impact left her in critical condition with multiple skull fractures, rib fractures, a shattered ankle, a massive brain bleed and traumatic brain injury. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency brain surgery. Two days later we celebrated her 86th birthday at her bedside in the ICU. Although she wasn’t able to blow out her candles, she was surrounded by love on her special day.

While Margie has shown promising signs of recovery in the hospital, we know the road ahead will be difficult. She will need physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, inpatient rehabilitation, another surgery to repair her skull, and eventually home services.

Margie is a loving woman who has dedicated her life to taking care of her family, including her husband Rafael, who suffers from dementia and has also been greatly impacted by this tragedy. Funds raised will go directly to covering Margie’s medical expenses and rehabilitation, to take over her existing bills, as well as the needs of caring for and relocating her husband in her absence.

Expenses are already mounting and we are asking for your support—whether that’s through a donation, a kind word, or simply sharing this page with others who may be able to help. Every little bit counts, and we are incredibly grateful for your generosity.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
