Help Maria beat Metastatic Breast Cancer!
Donation protected
Thank you for coming this far. We hope that, for the sake of our dear friend Maria Erdmier, you will continue just a little farther.
Of course, she’s not asking for this in any way. But as you’ll soon understand, Maria and her family need all of us, now more than ever.
At just 39 years old, Maria is facing one of the most significant challenges anyone ever can. She is now in her second battle with breast cancer. More specifically, a rapidly spreading form of metastatic breast cancer.
All of us have our own personal reasons to win our fights. But for Maria, it’s not just about her.
She’s the mother of three amazing children- Ethan (16), Aubrey (10), and Levi (6). There is no reason to expand on this. This picture paints itself. This family needs all the love and support that we can give. And they need it right now.
Because she’s in the fight of her life- for herself and her kids.
In the early days of February 2019, Maria, like many, found a lump. As the medical protocol goes, a mammogram lead to an ultrasound, and the ultrasound lead to a biopsy. On March 1st of 2019, Maria’s fear was confirmed with the worst possible diagnosis in the category: Triple Negative breast Cancer. An MRI soon followed that then identified multiple other areas of suspicion, and concern. This led to further biopsies, two of which were MRI guided. These biopsies also confirmed the previous diagnosis.
In mid-April of 2019, chemotherapy was initiated. For those in the medical community, you’ll understand the implications of starting with four treatments of Adriamycin and Cytoxan (also known as the red devil due to its adverse side effects), followed by 12 treatments of Taxol. Chemotherapy treatments ended the first week of September 2019. And through all the side effects and implications of intense chemotherapy, Maria did not miss a single day of work outside of the days of her therapy.
Her attitude, work ethic, and optimism, both then and now, is an inspiration to every single one of us.
On October 2, 2019, Maria underwent a bilateral mastectomy and total reconstruction. After 6 long weeks of recovery, again missing very little work, Maria was back on her feet and was diagnosed to be cancer free!
This brings us to 2020. It’s been an extremely challenging year for all of us. But nothing like it’s been for her.
After Maria’s second three-month follow-up in June of this year, her blood work showed that her tumor marker was elevated. This elevated marker led to a CT and bone scan on August 10th. The unthinkable came from those scan results. Maria was found to have lesions on her liver, both lungs, and sternum.
Several episodes of severe abdominal pain led to another CT scan on August 19th. Sadly, the results of this stat CT scan revealed the lesion on her liver had markedly increased in size in as little as 9 days. A few days later, Maria’s abdominal pain worsened to the point that she had to make a trip to the ER. Fearing the biopsy may be causing the liver to bleed, another CT scan was ordered which revealed further accumulation of fluid around the liver.
On September 1st, the liver biopsy confirmed that diagnosis of rapidly spreading cancer.
It’s difficult for most of us, as healthy and functioning people, to imagine how this would affect us. Just try and imagine the impact and strain of all the medical events mentioned above have had on Maria and her young family.
As we all know, even with insurance Maria’s out of pocket expenses have been staggering. She’s has no previous support through fundraisers or anything else. Now, she must experience all the physical, mental, emotional, and financial burdens yet again.
So, how will your donation be spent? First, with love and appreciation. We can promise you that. Your donation will help to address the ever mounting, out of pocket medical expenses for her and her family.
Those of us who know Maria truly thank you for anything you can do to help. We thank you for taking the time to read and learn more about our friend.
She’s not the one asking for help. We are. Because she’s an extraordinary person. And because of the impact she has had on all of us. That’s why we’re asking on her behalf.
Thank you for your time and consideration!!
