On September 23rd, my mom suffered a stroke, giving us a hard lesson of how life can change at any moment. Three weeks later, she had a second stroke, plus two subsequent heart attacks. This caused loss of mobility in areas of her body, necessitating around the clock medical attention. On October 12th, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which is believed to have been the main cause of her strokes.
She is a strong, loving woman and mother, who no matter what the circumstances, has always kept herself motivated with faith in the recovery process. She is currently back home, trying to get stronger, with the hopes that she can start the chemo therapy in January.
However, the treatment is where we need your help...
My mother lives in Mexico, where medical treatments and healthcare are drastically different from here. The standard treatment costs $10,250 and must be paid upfront. We have saved enough for the first 2 treatments, but we still need to find a way to pay for her 3rd treatment. Meaning, we need another $10,250, in just over 2 months.
I left home to work as a designer in the U.S. 11 months out of the year, to create an opportunity for my family and be able to send back money every month, but it has not been enough to cover these unexpected medical expenses. As far too many have seen, the toll of the diagnosis, hospital stays, medical bills, and being separated during this difficult time have been very trying on every member of my family.
