Help my mom, Marina Get a Seizure Service Dog

Donation protected

Hi everyone! I’m reaching out for support in getting a seizure service dog to help my mom, Marina. This service dog would help her manage her generalized epilepsy with tonic-clonic seizures (it starts as focal bilateral tonic-clonic seizures the day before)

Since 2019, my mom has been living with epilepsy, which has been quite a difficult journey. Her seizures involve both tonic (muscle stiffening) and clonic (jerking) phases, which means she loses consciousness and, without warning, is unable to control her body. Every seizure she has brings serious risks—she bites her tongue and lips, which causes bleeding, and if she falls on her back, she risks asphyxiation. She can hit her head or fall while taking a shower… so many things… To make matters even more challenging, she now lives alone, and there is no one around who can quickly help her.

A seizure service dog would be life-changing. Here’s how this amazing dog could help:
• Early Alert: The dog would be able to detect my mom's seizure warning signs, like auras or changes in breathing, and alert her so she can take her rescue medication.
• In-Case Assistance: During a seizure, the dog can position itself under her head to prevent injuries and roll her onto her side to ensure she doesn't choke.
• Alerting Others: If her seizure lasts more than two minutes, the dog will alert others nearby for emergency assistance.
• Recovery Support: Post-seizure, the dog will help her regain consciousness by licking her face, nudging, and deep pressure therapy (it slows down heart rate) offering physical support.

As my brother and I leave, this dog would bring a tremendous amount of ease to our family knowing this furry friend would support and help my mom. Seizures are truly unpredictable. Having a trained service dog to prevent serious injuries or impairments, would bring so much comfort knowing she is safe back home and able to have her full routine.

Hi :)) my name is Marina. Everyone knows I’m a very independent person — asking for help and accepting the fact that I do need help is weird and different & very hard — haha! Having seizures can be scary :( and dangerous.
And its an awful feeling waking up from them, don’t wish on anyone. I get embarrassed, scared, confused, sad, sore and many times hurt and it takes me a little while to get back to normal. We made the decision to apply for a seizure service dog after I had a seizure while driving and my car rolled over :( two months ago and another one that I fell on my back and Yasmin had to help turn me to the side a few weeks ago (11/6/24) I was very lucky because nothing serious happened to me on both occasions!
My kids — specially Yasmin, knows how hard it is (I can’t imagine how hard or what it feels to have to watch your mom having seizures — I ♥️ you Mins, you are incredible and I appreciate you more than you know)
Soooo, this service dog would bring me a sense of safety allowing me to live life with more confidence and security and of course having a pup by my side wouldn’t be so bad :)) oohh and my family & friends would also be very grateful as they worry a lot and get very mad because I have a tendency to disappear and not reply them when things are rough (I know it’s bad, I’m much much better at it, I promise!!!)
I would be so grateful for any support you can provide—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page. I appreciate you just by reading this :) — AND I GOT ACCEPTED IN THE PROGRAM 2 DAYS AGO :)

Why is costs $24,500? It takes between 18-24 months to train a service dog — during that time they need boarding, food, vet appts, loots of training and all care and love a dog deserves. It also covers their travel expense -- they come spend a week here at my house for the transitioning when he graduates ♡
