Help Marissa Recover and Rebuild Her Life
Donation protected
Hello family and friends, this GoFundMe is for my 18-year-old niece, Marissa. She unexpectedly fell sick at the beginning of February. In a matter of 4 days, she went from a healthy young lady to being unable to walk or use her arms. In those 4 days, she went to the emergency room 5 times and was told nothing was wrong with her and sent back home. On February 8th, she was admitted to the hospital, and it was confirmed by spinal tap that she has Guillain-Barré syndrome. Unfortunately, the IVIg treatment did not help slow the progression of the nerve damage. She was transferred to ICU and intubated on February 10th. Her team of doctors has been working with her since it was confirmed, but so far we have not seen any improvement. On February 12th, she began plasmapheresis, which will be done over the course of the next 10 days.
Marissa is a strong, beautiful, independent, and caring person. Prior to falling ill, she was going to school full-time to become an ultrasound technician, working full-time when she was not in school as a self-made nail tech, and raising her son with her partner, Jose. Her ambitions have always been aimed so high, and she always strived to do better not only for herself but for her entire family. We pray that God will intervene and this new treatment will get her back on the road to recovery. Marissa will have a tough journey ahead of her, but she has her family and friends to help her get through it.
We are fundraising to support Marissa's medical expenses and her family's needs during this challenging time.
