Help Mark Get Saxenda

Hi, my name is Sherry Honeycutt, and I'm fundraising for my husband, Mark. In 2009, he was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis (a bone disease where the bone starts to die and become brittle) in every joint. Since then, he has had over twenty major surgeries and was put on permanent disability. Between having surgeries and the overall depression related to not being able to do the things that he used to do, he has gained a lot of weight. Over the years, he's tried to lose weight every way possible: Weight Watchers, Adkins Diet, liquid diet, low-calorie diets, etc. None of them have worked. Gastric By-pass is off the table as well due to the enormous number of surgeries he's had to have, not including the ones that are left to have.

All I want for Mark, my husband of 22 years, is to see him healthy and happy again. He cannot exercise like most people his age (51) can. He's in pain all of the time, and daily anti-inflammatories are necessary to just get him through most days. Getting this weight off of his joints would alleviate much if not all of that pain, but he's caught between a rock and a hard place.

We finally found a medication that helps him -- Saxenda. His doctor gave him a sample pen (he does daily injections with it), and he lost over 25 pounds in 17 days! The problem is that his insurance, nor his secondary insurance, will approve it. It costs $1,600 per month from our pharmacy. Even after shopping around and using the $200 savings card, Saxenda would still cost well over $1300 per month. We cannot afford that. Another option that we've found is that we can send the prescription to a Canadian pharmacy, and they will ship us the Saxenda for $535 per month. But that is still out of our budget.

We have looked at every option available for assistance, and nothing exists. I am distraught. Mark is distraught. Having the opportunity to regain some life and health for him is so close, but so far away. He is such a good person and a loving father to our three sons as well as a loving husband to me. I so much want to help him so that he lives to see our boys grow up. Please help us get Mark the medication that he needs in order to do this. You would not only be helping him overcome a very long dark period of his life, but you would be helping a family of five reconnect in ways we haven't been able to do in a long time.
