Help Mark Lombardo and family

Today, members of Local 8782 stand in solidarity with their brother, Mark Lombardo, who was unexpectedly and unjustly fired by Stelco on September 14, 2021. Mark Lombardo is not only one of Local 8782’s integral members, he is also a loving father, husband, friend, Health and Safety advocate, Trade Unionist and Labour Rights Activist.

Mark has been a member in good standing with USW since 2006, and has served our membership throughout his entire career with Stelco. He has held positions such as Steward, Chief Steward, Health and Safety Co-chair, Trustee, Recording Secretary and more. Mark Lombardo has always made himself and his knowledge available to the workers, regarding of whether or not he is being paid. Being a strong advocate for labour rights, women’s rights, and mental health, Mark has continually represented our membership at events and rallies. He has done his duty serving food to the less fortunate, standing with brothers and sisters in labour disputes, organizing financial assistance for those in need, and sitting beside our sick and injured members in the hospital.

My friends, today is the day to give back to a man who has been there for so many of us. With the current state of our union being in such disarray, it has become clear that the company is trying to capitalize on this divide. We as a membership need to come together, in solidarity, and support our brother. We, the union, need to publicly show that we will not be intimidated. We will stand behind Mark and support him and his family through this difficult time. By standing together, we will demonstrate our strength.

An injury to one is an injury to all.
