"Omnia Ab Uno"
Hello, my name is Mark Stavish. I am the founder and Director of Studies of the Institute for Hermetic Studies (IHS) a non-profit educational entity, and I am inviting you to make a difference in the future of Western Esotericism. In creating something that has not been done before. Join with me, and embark on our journey to the future of esoteric studies.
What Is the Institute for Hermetic Studies?
The Institute for Hermetic Studies (501c3) was established in 1998 and for over a quarter of a century has provided high quality information for researchers and practitioners of the many varied aspects of the Western esoteric traditions. These teachings have been disseminated through digital and print media as well as live presentations.
What Have We Accomplished?
Starting in 2015 we have raised funds to finance publishing of the IHS Monographs and IHS Study Guides Series (available through Amazon). These volumes include Light on the Path a complete curriculum for individual and group study. We have also provided hundreds of hours of instruction through our Teachable classes, and our annual conference. The Annual IHS Conference has received sponsorship from all of the major publishers of esoterica and several of the smaller specialty houses. RedFeather, a division of Schiffer Publishing, is among our current sponsors along with the Louis Claude de St. Martin Fund (Luzerne Foundation).
Our Model of Success
Starting in 2016 the Institute for Hermetic Studies began publishing its highly successful IHS Monograph Series. This grew to include our Study Guide Series, and came to fruition with our Teachable courses starting in 2020. These courses are the basis of our IHS Teacher Training Certification Program, and are sent on request to individuals through the IHS Prison Outreach Program.
By contributing to this fundraiser you will be part of establishing the next generation of IHS activities through the Institute for Hermetic Studies Collection in the Weinberg Memorial Library located on the campus of the University of Scranton.
In planning for the future the Institute has looked to partner with a variety of individuals and organizations, from authors, to publishers, and even futurist researchers for various 'think tanks' and has been able to arrange for the establishment of the Institute for Hermetic Studies Collection at the Weinberg Memorial Library on the campus of the University of Scranton. The Harry and Janette Weinberg Memorial Library is the premier academic research library in Northeastern Pennsylvania. By partnering with them the IHS Collection, as it is now and as it grows, will have the attention and care that it needs. Among those items that will be included are books, monographs, publications, letters, and ephemera from a variety of esoteric, religious, and consciousness studies movements of the 20th century and earlier - with each item listed in an online data base.
This is a time intensive project and will require the financial and material support of members from across the spiritual communities that will benefit from this relationship. A relationship that is unique in that it provides access to this material to both academic researchers and the general public. Some of the more rare and expensive titles will be available only on reserve, while others can be had through inter-library loan. Thus, distance will not be a factor for much of what we are creating.
To make this a sustained reality, that of a carefully curated, maintained, and growing collection, will require the direct and regular engagement of the Institute along with the professional staff of the university.
As such, we need to raise the money needed to both obtain additional titles as well as replace those that may need be recovered in the future.
We look forward to your support as we build a collection of important instruction for a future generation of scholars and practitioners.
