Help Marlee Powell

On August 18, 2022 our dear friend Marlee Powell suffered a horrendous accident (a near tragedy) in Phoenix, AZ. Marlee, an extremely talented landscape designer, tripped and fell, dropping her newly sharpened landscaping shears. She fell forward onto the opened blades, suffering a severe wound on her right wrist. Her screams brought her assistant, 2 nearby landscapers and 2 of our neighbors running. Acting quickly, the three men placed a tourniquet on Marlee’s arm, and with assistance from my neighbors and paramedics, quite literally saved her life. There was a tremendous amount of blood loss and doctors said there quite possibly could have been a fatal injury to her neck.

Marlee had surgery to clean out the wound and to repair damage to the many tendons, ligaments, arteries, and nerves that were severed. She faces a long recovery. It is not known yet if she will regain full or even limited use of her dominant right hand. Not only has Marlee been unable to work for over a month, as the owner of her own business she does not qualify for workman’s compensation. Her medical bills are mounting and she has no way to perform the tasks required in her line of work.

In addition, Marlee suffers from a debilitating disease which has plagued her for years and has been a tremendous drain on her finances. The insurance she can afford has been insufficient and she finds herself in a desperate situation. All of this would cause many people to give up, and yet she has worked harder than anyone I know for many years. Her landscape designs are elegant and beautiful. With her talent, she was able to start her own company a few years ago, but at present, she stands to lose everything….. her business, her livelihood, and her home.
